Clarence W. Mize, 86, of Burkburnett, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2012.

The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Cashion Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Hibbs, officiating. Interment will follow at Burkburnett Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.

Clarence was born November 27, 1925 in Prescott, Arkansas to the late James and Ethel (Love) Mize. On June 1, 1946, he married Iva Jo Garrett in Lawton, Oklahoma. Clarence worked as a mail carrier for many years in Ardmore, Oklahoma. While in Ardmore, he was also Pastor at Gene Autry Baptist Church. In 1975, he made Postmaster in Ryan, Oklahoma. While there, he was Pastor at the Irving Baptist Church for 23 years. In 2003, he retired as Postmaster from Comanche, Oklahoma and moved to Burkburnett, Texas. There, he volunteered as a Chaplain at Evergreen Nursing Home. He was a member of Cashion Baptist Church, and served as Secretary of the Lions Club in Burkburnett. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Earl Mize; and his sister, Verta Langley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Iva Jo Mize of Burkburnett; his son, James Mize and wife Mary of Randlett, Oklahoma; three brothers, Leonard Mize and wife Betty of Munster, Ernest Mize of Bowie, and Bill Mize and wife Carole of Burkburnett; two sisters, Verna Elkins and husband Guy of Ft. Stockton, and Gustena Cash and husband Sam of Burkburnett; two grandchildren, Danny Mize and wife Ida of Burkburnett, and Shanna Mellott and husband Larry of Lawton, Oklahoma; nine great-grandchildren, Cody, Justin, Caleb, Jordan, Selena, D.J., Sada, Chloe, and Anthony; a great-great grandson, Zion; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Friday, September 14, 2012 at Owens & Brumley Funeral Home of Burkburnett.

Clarence was a wonderful and loving person with an amazing spirit. I am truly blessed to have known him and his family. He will be missed deeply. May God be with you during this time.

I did not know Mr. Mize but I do know Carol and her husband and I know they have had a lot of sadness the last few years. I want them to know I am thinking of them at this time.
